At Sew Dayton, a little sewing shop in Dayton, Ohio we teach all the indie patterns that we sell which also means we have to know, sew and understand all those patterns. What is an Indie pattern? It stands for Independent Pattern. Just like indie movies indie patterns are owned by real people. are more modern and the they do not have to follow big box pattern rules. Being a small business owner I’m big on community. Keeping my money flowing in my sewing DIY industry is number one to me.
This is a great pattern! I goes together really fast and always looks great. The Y seams can be a little tricky in the beginning although it’s great it comes in all sizes and also looks wonderful in knit.
We love Art Gallery Fabric and when we found out they were selling patterns we got some for the shop. Pat Brovo is one of the owners of Art Gallery. The cool thing about this pattern is it comes with a video with all kinds of beginner tips.
Colette was my first intro to the indie pattern world. I have made so many Iris shorts. I love the princess seam pockets. They come with a great little book of directions and her sizing is a good fit for my body.
I have made 4 Washi dresses, they are one of my all time favorites. This pattern is great for teaching because the student learns pockets, pleats, bias tape, facings, sheering and cap sleeves.
I wear the Colette’s Hawthorn dress a lot in the summer. I like to switch the buttons for snaps and make it a lot shorter.
If there is pattern I have used the most this is it for knits. Jamie Christina’s Mission Maxi is fast and flattering.
Sew Liberated is great seller at Sew Dayton. If you want a challenge this top is it. It looks wonderful on!!
I love everything April Rhodes does! When she came out with patterns and then Art Gallery fabric we starting carrying her products.
Sew Liberated’s Clara dress is another great pattern but not for the beginner. Bias tape, key hole arm holes, skirt on the bias, some elastic in the waist. Once again I used snaps instead of buttons. I love to hammer them on.
Great, great online free patten!
We teach, sell and love Sublime Stitching products! For these booties I used a repo vintage Simplicity pattern. They make great gifts!
One of my favorites, this one takes about 3 classes! I have made 3 hoodies! This one was organic and american made sweat shirt fleece.
Look how pretty this Date Night dress we made for the window looks.
Look more snaps. I call this one the school teacher dress. It’s so easy to throw on. I used linen fabric so it needs to be ironed.
Look for part 2 to come out soon. Want to know more about indie patterns? Check out indiesew.com
