I have been invited to the Springfield Museum of Art to have a panel conversation with women in creative industries in conjunction with their Mirror Mirror exhibition. Mirror Mirror examines contemporary women artists who focus on issues of identity – as a woman, artist, mother, wife, and/or daughter. The panel will explore ideas of empowering women leaders, how women’s identity may or may not be tied into their career, and how women live and work in creative fields.
I was invited as someone who has navigated a successful career in sewing (from Sew Dayton, to classes, blog, and your current Studio), is an active community member and leader (Dayton Garment Designers Meet Up, Kettering Leadership Academy, and Kettering Arts Council), and is a partner and parent.
I’m a little nervous but this should be a fun interactive event. Doors open at 6pm. Free and open to the public.

Tracy McElfresh

Owner at Tracy's Sewing Studio

Tracy McElfresh is an alterations and fit specialist, Kettering Arts Council member, and Kettering resident. Tracy has a skillset built from multigenerational roots in the sewing and garment industries. Operating out of a studio located inside Rosewood Art Centre she provides alterations, garment design (including a strong passion for swimwear), formal and casual dressmaking, and sewing classes. Tracy founded a meetup group in 2014 called the Dayton Garment Designers Meet Up that is open to all newcomers at any skill level. In her free time, she is an avid writer and blogger and was a recognized award winner in 2018 as having one of the Best Dressmaker Blogs on the Planet from Blogspot.
