Hi, I’m Tracy! I’ve been teaching sewing lessons for over 15 years to both children and adults. Teaching the art and science of sewing is my passion.
Have you ever looked at something and thought,”I would like to make that?”
Do you have a baby or grandbaby on the way that you want to make something very special for?
Is there a young aspiring designer in your family?
Do you feel the need to make something with your own hands?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, a private lesson is for you! Private lessons are great because they are tailored specifically to what you want to learn while moving at your pace and skill level.
How to Get Started?
If you have never sewn before, a lesson called “The Basics” will help you build skills and save hours of frustration. The basics lesson will get you comfortable sewing and using your machine properly. While you might be overwhelmed trying to learn on your own, my approach makes it easy to understand as I will guide you. I’ll go over threading the needle, loading the bobbin with ease, explaining accessories, stitches, needle sizes, types of thread to use and machine maintenance. You will learn hands on with a real person that can answer your questions. Having machine problems? Great. These are opportunities for us to troubleshoot your machine. Stop getting frustrated and wasting time trying to figure it out on your own. We are here to help.
No sewing machine? No problem! I can bring a great beginner machine for you to use during the class.

Dreamstress: You have never sewn before but you are about to book a lesson and learn.
Beginner: You are comfortable with your machine, perhaps you have made PJ pants, tote bags and gathered skirts but want to learn to work with patterns and garment construction.
Advanced Beginner: You have made a few simple dresses, skirts or shirts and you know how to read a pattern. Maybe you can put in a zipper and do buttonholes. Perhaps you are looking for something more sophisticated and more skills like French seams, bias binding or matching prints and finishing techniques.
Intermediate: You have the skills to sew pleats, plackets, collars, underlining, and you can make your own clothing. You want to learn to get the perfect fit, possibly make your own designs and move on to making outer wear or formal wear. I can help you make this leap.
Advanced: You have jumped really far down the rabbit hole. You understand tricky fabrics and love the challenge of learning new techniques. You find yourself snapping photos and ripping apart old garments to remake them. You can design your own wardrobe and perhaps you have a closet full of pretty things that look great on you. We can work on collaborative sewing techniques and focus on thinking outside of the box for cutting edge fashions or recreating beauty from the past.
I’m a fit specialist and have created countless dresses, garments, and home decor over the last 15 years. I place myself at the Advanced level but I am always learning! I am happy to share my knowledge with interested people of all ages so they may benefit from what I have achieved.
First Projects\r\n\r\nOnce you have taken “The Basics,” you may pick a project! \r\n\r\nMaking dresses is awesome, although for your first project it is best to start with something a bit easier that can be completed while gaining the knowledge to recreate the item on your own.\r\n\r\nSome great beginner projects:\r\n
Pillows and Pillowcases
Elastic Waist Skirts
Children around 8 years of age are generally ready to start using a sewing machine although we have seen 6 year olds with great concentration learn to sew. It really depends on your child. Younger siblings also do well and may be another exception to the age limit. Kids really enjoy learning new skills with their crafty friends.
Remember you can also book me for a sewing party, too.
The cost for a 2 hour lesson is $50 per person. Group discounting is available for single project classes. Just ask. Lessons are scheduled in 2 hour segments. Fill out the form below to request a lesson date and pay in advance to confirm your spot.
Need advanced help? I can help you with your serger, cover stitch machine and much more.
